With the passing of the 55-year-old artist, we feel there is a void left in the photography scene and in our life. We know that in a medium-size town, one single person can fashion home for a gender. That was exactly the case with István Őri Tóth in Székesfehérvár.
He functioned as a one-person, independent institute. He began a studio, opened a gallery and organized exhibitions. He was an activist of Hungarian photo art in Székesfehérvár. And he did it all in a visually educated town where photo art and contemporary visual art often appeared hand in hand at exhibitions.
István Őri Tóth was no tan artist who was often awarded with prizes at national contests. He often hid in the background in favour of his colleagues and even his students. How significant his art was we can find out from a few of his report photo series and books publishing his photos. The quality of his works indicates that he must have been a good photographer.
His legacy is waiting for us to be shown. We are quite sure that showing photos from his legacy will prove to many that he was a great artist. To do so, the family and the town collected nearly 120 photos we now present to the audience.
