Mikszáth Kálmán was born in Szklabonya on 16 January 1847.
A taste of the exhibition
after After his school years, postponing his legal studies he went from Pest to gain an office in Balassagyarmat. However, his application was not admitted. He worked as a notary assistant, a legal practitioner and a collegue of the newspaper called Nógrád days.

The boring weekdays were sometimes filled with noisy entertainment and arguments anbout the elections. As a clerk he experienced th edull and dreary office life, which he soon turned his back on. He fell in love with one of the Mauks girls, and tried to make his way far from Nógrád county, as a writer and a journalist.

He was most familiar with the world of editorials. He had been working for the Pesti Hírlap for 25 years, and in 1896 he was elected president of the Budapest Journalist Society. At the age of 40 he was elected member of the Parliament.

Mikszáth gladly entered the public places of the city as well, such as the club of liberal party, the National Casino, the English Queen Hotel, the Steingassner cofé; he was honoured and popular figure of social life. JánosGundel reserved a separate room for the companions of Mikszáth.

At the end of his life a strett and a square was named after him in Szeged and Pest. He received more land in Horpácson and Szklabonya was renamed to Mikszáthfalva. In 1910-ben, shortly before his death, he took part in the jubilee festivity arranged for his celebration.
