The mansion of Szabadkígyós was built by Mrs. Wenckheim Krisztina and her husband Frigyes Wenckheim. The huge building was built between 1875 and 1879, according to the sketches of Miklós Ybl.

The park was began to formed at the same time as the building works were started. Most parts of the original park were made up by a forest. The oaks and platans seen today were possibly lofty and mature as early as the time of the building works.

The mansion house was built in neorenaissance style. The building has two towers and two main divisions. The main building is connected to the other by an open corridor.

The chapel is found in the Eastern wing of the main building. Next to it stood the winter garden, of which we can only see the foundations today. In the halls of the ground hall there are marble fireplaces, which were never used for heating the building. The central space of the mansion house is two-storeyed. The tower is about 40 metres high.

The largest halls of the first floor are the dining room, the library, small and big saloon, the circular tower and the smoking room. Bedrooms and guest rooms are on the first floor. The small building contains the kitchen, the iron-room and the rooms of the maid servants.

The entrance road was leading right underneath the corridor. Getting off their carriage the owners got right into the entrance hall, and the carriage could go right into the stable. The carriage house and the stable were two different buildings.

Since 1945 a school has been functioning in the house.
