The mansion of Szabadkígyós was built by Mrs. Wenckheim Krisztina and her husband Frigyes Wenckheim. The huge building was built between 1875 and 1879, according to the sketches of Miklós Ybl. The park was began to formed at the same time as the building works were started. Most parts of the original park were made up by a forest. The oaks and platans seen today were possibly lofty and mature as early as the time of the building works.
