Equipments of fire-fighting, drawings of fire-hoses, and remnants of big fires could already be seen by the visitors of private exhibitions in Hungary at the beginning of the 19th century. At the and of 1900 the first collection of the history of fire-fighting was created by the Volunteer Fire Brigade Corporation of Budapest to function as a collection of school equipments and a home museum. Similar museums were founded at the fire departments of several towns. Besides the fire-hoses made by the firemen, old ones from the 17th century were also preserved. These collections were devastated by WW II and the years following it, when they fell victims to the approach which did not esteem the historic values.

The material of the Firefighter Museum, established in 1955, was recollected and organized following the adequate law of 1954, which voiced the protection of the technical reminiscences.
