Miksa Róth (18651944) was the most excellent creator of the Hungarian glass painting art. The painting of the lead-glass windows of the Budapest Parlament, the Music Academy, the former Austrian-Hungarian (today Hungarian National) Bank or the Gresham palace was carried out by him. One of the newest museums of Budapest - the Róth Miksa Memorial House - was opened in the former dwelling house of the artist - in November 1999. The nicely renovated monument building was disigned by Samu Petz.

The permanent exhibition of the memorial house represents various periods of the art of Miksa Róth. We can see wonderful artworks from the age of secession and art deco. Róth liked working together with József Rippl-Rónai, Sándor Nagy, Géza Maróti and other renowned artists of his time. We can see several pieces that he had made together with these artists.

We can also get to know the less known aspect of his art, which is mosaic making. We exhibit several of his masterpieces, such as the mosaic entitled "The rising sun" (silver prized).

The enteriour of the house remained almost unimpaired, and thus gives a faithful demonstration of the civil athmosphere of the Hungarian capital at the beginning of the 20th century.

The reconstruction works of the ground floor are soon to be carried out in order to hold temporal exhibitions here. We are also planning to arrange the so-called „Róth Parlor" where visitors can have a cup of tea and look into albums demonstrating the art work of the artist. One of our strategic plans are to renovate the former three storied work shop and arrange a glass restorer and glass applied arts workshop in there.

Till then visitors will gain an unforgettable experience by getting to know the most outstanding artist of the Hungarian glass painting art.
