Our museum began functioning under the name: 'Museum of Pioneer Movement' in 1974. The field of collecting material was the history of youth and children institutions.

The ministry of education envisioned the museum as part of the Pioneer Town, Zánka so the new museum was attached to the Pioneer Town. Its supervisor was the Museum of the Hungarian Worker's movement.

In honor of the work of a decade, the museum was ranked a professional museum in 1980. Later it became the center of the collection of the history of pioneers. From 1987, it was the Central Museum and Library of the History of Pioneers and from 1989, it was called the Museum of Children Organizations.

In its existence of a quarter of a century, it had 33 000 pieces listed and about 50 000 pieces unlisted documents and objects. The field of interest of the museum is unique in Hungary.

Ever since its foundation, the museum organized 13 permanent and 23 temporary exhibitions beside landing the collection to several national and local shows. It was a co-organizer of the National Professional Conference of the Historian Museologists in Zánka in 1986. After a decade in cooperation with the maintaining institution we organized a national conference titled 'Children- and Youth Organizations at the Turn of the Century'. Parallel with this event we held an exhibition titled 'Hungarian Children- and Youth Organizations at the End of the Century'.

The colleagues published several articles dealing with youth and children organizations. One of the most noteworthy was the publishing on the conference. Another important publication was the first piece of the Museum of Zánka Booklets from 1999 which included the article titled 'Once it was a Game'.

The specialized collection includes several dozen publishing and documentations proving that there is a wide scale of education outside the school system.

Our museum presently maintains the exhibitions titled 'It was Built for Us', the '30 years of Zánka' photo show, and the 'Once it was a Game' show which presents toys connected to the Pajtaműhely toy- making workshop.
