The collection of old objects and documents began in the 1920's in Vasvár. The material placed in the Town Hall was destroyed at the time of WWII. The process of collecting began again under the supervision of Antal Németh in 1948. A District Museum was created of using his and the material of the archeological findings of 1951.
The collection was placed in one of the wings of the old Dominic Friary. The early Baroque monastery was raised in 1684, and was enlarged in 1928 and in 1967.
The material of the museum is made up of almost 2000 objects of local history and 1000 of pieces of ethnography. The most significant pieces are the Bronze corpus from the 14th century, the remnant of iron metallurgy from the 12th century, and other objects of folk art.
From 2001, the institution invites the visitors to see the exhibitions of the past of the Dominic order in Hungary. The researcher may use the library of the history of the order.
