The Tábornokház by the Alsókapu in Kőszeg now functions as the Municipal Museum. It was named Tábornokház (General’s House) as it was the house the generals of any garrison used to stay when visiting Kőszeg.

The other town a municipal museum was established in the county is Szombathely. The museum building was renovated and rebuilt in 1932 overseen by Kálmán Miksa for museum purposes.

The visitors coming to visit the Tábornokház first enter Jurusics Square passing under the Tower of Heroes. The tower was built on the site where the Alsókapu Tower has been located before. In 1930, the leaders of the town decided to set up a memorial to commemorate the heroes who died during the siege of 1932 and WWII. The initiative was accepted unanimously to build the memorial

The tower was inaugurated by the governor of Hungary, Miklós Horthy, on 28 May 1932. Then the Tábornokház and the Tower of Heroes was connected and had functioned as a museum site ever since. The 27-meter tower is also a wonderful place to observe the town and the hills surrounding it.
