The King St. Stefan Museum of Székesfehérvár, which at the same time is the Headquarters of the Fejér County Museums. Following the Hungarian National Museum, this museum cares for one of the largest collection in Hungary.
The public collection was founded in 1873. The items from the fields of ethnography, archeology, history and fine arts are shown on temporal and permanent exhibitions.
Among the 17 permanent exhibitions there are the most otstanding village museum of Palotaváros (Europa Nostra reward) and the archeological exhibition (Museum of Europe reward) held in the central building of the museum, the former Jesuit house.
The scientific conferences which are often held in Székesfehérvár, always connect to temporal exhibitions, especially in the fields of Roman archeological researches (The Celts in Middle Europe, International Limes Congress, etc.) and the history and architecture of the early middle ages.
Results of the research work are published in the museum's periodical. Annuals, ethnographical booklets, conference bulletins and exhibition catalogues appear in the series of the periodical. More than 300 booklets has been published so far.
