The Country Museum of Borsod is a regional museum dealing with the region around Edelény and along the river Bódva. The museum collects various items in the fields of ethnography, industry, agriculture, cultural and regional history.

The museum building consists of houses and farm-buildings which are themselves the untouched representatives of the popular architecture tipical to the area. The buildings of the museum were bought by the town separately in 1987, 1997 and 2000.

The so-called Szathmáry-Horkay house was built in the 1860'ies,and was renovated into its present shape in 1909. Walls of the house were brought higher, front windows were enlarged and a porch was attached to the front wall.

Unfortunately the roof of the house collapsed in 1994 and ruined some of the stable. In the place of the stable an open building was built for the exhibition of the relics discovered during the excavation of the mud castle. On the other side of the court a summer kitchen was built in 1913. The kitchen had an open chimny with a cellar underneath. Unfortunately the chimney was pulled down in 1960, and its oven became a food store.

At the back of the court there is a barn which is used today for social purposes such as barn balls, weddings and performances. A plum garden behind the barn reaches right to the river Bódva.

The Szücs-Kiss-Szarka house is a building of modest appearance built in 1903. A stable, hey-store and a coach-house are attached to the house. At the other side of the court there is a small building with a cellar built underneath.

The Vadászy house is similar to the Szathmáry-Horkay house and was built in 1905. Its porch is even more decorative, but its front wall needs renovation.

At the back of the court there is only a small wooden barn in a rather decayed state.

In the year 1999 the museum had more than 4000 visitors. A good number of programmes were arranged by the museum which in 1998 received a prize on the proposal called "The museum of the year".

The Bódva-valley Library- and Library historical collection is one of a rugged fate. Its collecting work was supervised by the former directors of the former library collection (Imre Slezsák and Béla Augusztinyi. The collection was first exhibited in Trízsben, then later in Égerszögön. In 1998 it was placed in the Ragályi Tamás library of Borsod. continue
