The Erdős Renée House is one of the rare buildings in the 17th district that hardly changed ever since they were built. An embossment over the entrance signifies to the visitor that the house was built in 1895 with the help of the Virgin Mary and Saint George. It was acquired by Erdős Renée, a famed writer of the time, in 1927. She kept it until 1944. In 1990, the Erdős Renée House, a museum, opened in the building.
The district had had museum institutions before. The Ethnography Memorial House opened in a peasant house in Ferihegy Street in 1970. It showed the ethnographic traditions of the district. Nevertheless, the housing estate constructed in 1978 took its place. The material held in the museum was removed to varied stores.
In 1998 the Local History Compilation formed of the Local History Club's collection that collected documents concerning the region.
When the Erdős Renée House was established in 1990, a local history exhibition was created holding documents of the district. The ward downstairs also held ethnographic material and an 'Epress Compilation Chamber Exhibition' with material from Epress Jenő. The memorial room of Erdős Renée was created then along with a slide show exhibition presenting the flora and fauna of the Merzse Moors.
The upstairs ward usually hold fine art exhibitions.
The institution was first managed by an independent management in 2001. After research works concerning the material of the Ethnographic Memorial House, restoration of the material a new ethnographic exhibition opened supported by the Erdős Renée House and the Alfa Program of the Ministry of Culture. Besides, fine- and applied art exhibitions continuously open in the institution.
