Gyula Takáts is honorary citizen of Kaposvár, one of the 'third generation of Nyugat'. He was born in Tab, in Somogy County in 1911. The talented student attended Ripple-Rónai's art classes. Gyula Takáts wanted to be a painter. Still, he graduated from the Faculty of Arts as a history-philosophy-geography teacher.

In his ethnography studies he wrote about the shepherd's life in Somogy. In his philosophy related writings and paintings he depicted the Balaton and Somogy, with its people. He gave a very unique colouring to his sensitive approach to art.

The Mediterranean joy that permeated both his life and artistic approach turned ever more philosophical from the 1980s. He was increasingly interested in the world over words, the 'fifth season', petrified time. At the break-even point of this and that world a strange world was born: Drangalag. And with Drangalang came Csu Fu, the alter ego of the poet, his working and discussion partner. He came to unfold this strange world that had no boundaries.

Gyula Takáts announced the publication of his last poetry collection, at the age of 96 in 2007Where was it One upon a Time?.

Gyula Takáts died on 20 November 2008. The poet left an unparalleled complete and harmonic oeuvre to posterity.

He bestowed his house in Kaposvár, his painting collection and rich library, as well as his archives full of treasures to the Town of Kaposvár. Now a museum is open with all these for the visitors to see.
