The Guild History Museum in Kézdivásárhely opened in 1972 as part of the Székely National Museum. The objective of the museum is to show records of artisanship, as well as research and attend civic culture and built heritage inherent in it. The institution considered it important to preserve the spirit and memorial places of the War of Independence of 1948-49. With respect to clothing history, it is an important task to attend and show doll size folk cloths.
Museums have significant tradition in Kézdivásárhely. The first museum was establishment by the lawyer Ödön Ikefalvi Dienes between WWI and WWII. However, this museum was open only for nine years. In 1941, the museum that owned over 20.000 articles then was liquidated. The period after WWII was not favourable for museums. The next time a museum could be opened in town was in 1969. Then, on the 120th anniversary of the death of Áron Gábor, the Kovászna County Culture Committee opened a museum in two rooms of the Túróczy House located int he yard of the old cannon casting workshop. In one of the rooms, an exhibition was organized showing records from the War of Independence of 1848-49 while in the other room, records of the guilds of Kézdivásárhely were shown. The basis of the present exhibition is these two showings. It turned out after the exhibition was opened that the descendants of artisans of Kézdivásárhely owned a considerable amount of records. The history teacher László Incze began collecting these. In autumn 1970, he was commissioned to organize a permanent exhibition to be held at the Túróczy House.
When the old Town Hall was given over to the museum to be, the collecting work sped up. Parallel with the collecting work, the building was rebuilt according to the modern requirements.
The museum in operation today in Kézdivásárhely opened on 3, March, 1972 and operated as section of the Kovászna County Museum. The basic exhibition presents the past of Kézdivásárhely, the history of the town including the local records of the War of Independence of 1848-49.
