Museum and Regional House Felpéc - Felpéc

Felpéc is 21 km from Gyor on the South East edge of the hills of Sokoróalja.

This is a family dwelling under the protection of historic buildings, which has been donated by the descendants to the Foundation for Felpec for the purpose of establishing a regional house for the foundation.

The building was renovated and the furnishings were arranged by collecting items during an ethnographic camp in 2004. This historic building which became a regional house is in itself part of the Exhibition together with the object exhibited inside it. The furnishings and all other objects were collected from the people of Felpéc. The house is divided into three rooms in a row: living room, kitchen and pantry. The walls are made of mud with the addition of chaff, i.e. made of wattle and it was extended during many decades using appropriate techniques. In the original solution, the smoke was taken away by a free standing chimney, which was blocked up by the last owner to be in the way it is at present. The floor of the house is beaten earth, except for the kitchen which is concrete (made by Sandor bacsi). The oven is very interesting as it can be still used. The original oven was (probably......) dismantled and bricked up. This house is a very good example of folk architecture.

The inhabitants of the house were evangelical Christians which explains why the interior is so surprisingly simple. In one of the out buildings agricultural implements can be found, such as beekeeping utensils and objects. Those who are interested can see a periodic exhibition of these. The designers of the regional house wanted to breathe new life into this project, therefore included a further extension to the present plans. The extension has become a reality in 2005-06 when an application was won for considerable help. This is where we hold craft sessions for children between the ages of 6 to 14 and we also hold summer camps. In this new part we also arrange periodic seasonal exhibitions. We provide various activities for young people on excursions, after visiting the exhibition, such as drawing, history of Hungary. Skilled local ladies meet for craft sessions making gift items for their own enjoyment and for sale to the visitors. They also help with the running of the summer camps. We have also hosted an International Craft camp where the artists could work in peaceful and inspiring surroundings and also have a rest. We hope to repeat this in the future.
