The name Tuzsér has been mentioned together with the Lónyay Family from the 18th century as well as the Habsburg Family through Lónyay Elemér and the widow of the prince, princess Stefánia. The village Tuzsér is in the Northeast of Hungary in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County, close to the Ukrainian Border.
Documents laready mentioned the village in the 13th century. The Lónyay Family also acquired it that time. The castle was built by the guard of Mary Teresa, Lónyay János, who was greatly impressed by the Baroque art he saw in Vienna.
The Minister of Finance of the Andrássy Cabinet, Lónyay Menyhért had Ybl Miklós built the castle around 1880. The mansard was rebuilt and two wings were built next to the main building. Ybl ornamented the facade with Neo Baroque motifs.
