The bishop's palace in Sümeg is an outstanding building in Upper Balaton. It was first mentioned in a document from 1675. It was commissioned by the bishop of Veszprém, Sennyei lstván. The forerunner of the present Baroque building was built by the bishop Padányi Bíró Márton, one of the, important public figures of the 18th century. The construction works began in 1749. Around 1830, part of the building was reconstructed in the Classicist style. The yard surrounded by walls was also rearranged at the beginning of the 19th century. Some of the trees were probably planted then.
From the beginning of the 19th century, the bishops only used the building to holiday in.
(Except from the book by Bardi Terézia - Mrs. Wisnovszky Hajdi Márta: 'National Monuments under National Guard')
