Füzérradvány is a little village in north - east Hungary, in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County. Its territory is mostly covered with foretests. The village's original name was Radvány, but by the 19th century it was called Füzérradvány.

The village originally belonged to the fortress of Füzér owned by many families from the Árpád age to the 17th century. In 1670, due to his participation in the Wesselényi revolt, Nádasy Ferenc's property was seized by the country including Füzér. This was given to Károlyi László in 1686. This was the beginning of a new era when the fortress's fate depended on the Károlyi Family. In the 16-17th century, the Károlyis played important role in Hungarian history and due to favourable marriages the family became one of the most eminent in the country.

In 1827 Károlyi Istvén took the estate in Füzérradvány over. His son, Ede inherited the until insignificant building in Füzérradvány and the park belonging to it. He began grand construction works that heightened the significance of the castle. The construction works lasting for two decades were based on the designs of Ybl Miklós, the architect of Károlyi Ede.

Of course, the state the castle is in now differs greatly from the original plans, since Károlyi Ede made Ybl change it during the construction works. The heir of Károlyi Ede was his son, László, who reconstructed the interior of the castle at the turn of the 19-20th century. New door frames fire places were installed along with new furniture. Towards the end of his life, Károlyi László retired to his estate in Fót, so the castle in Füzérradvány remained unoccupied.

In the 1930's, Windischgrátz Mária Magdolna, the wife of István, son of Károlyi László fiának found a solution for the utilization of the building: he counseled that the castle should be run as a hotel: The Castle Hotel opened on 8 May 1938. However, Károlyi László did not live by then. His son, István inherited the castle. The institution was popular until 1945 just was the Castle Hotel in Lillafüred.
