The bishop castle of Fertőrákos built in 1311 was destroyed during the conflict between the town of Sopron and the bishop of Győr. To press their interest, the people of Sopron took down the castle. It is probable that the bishop Draskovics György put down the base of the new castle in the second part of the 16th century where the old one had stood. Five rooms were located downstairs and three upstairs. During the Turkish reign, the bishops of Győr was in exile in the castle.
The castle was last reconstructed in the second half of the 18th century.
