The little village, Fáy, is situated among the hills of the Cserehát, in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County. The village belonged to the royal estate Abaújvár. The king Béla IV presented the village Fáj to one of the ancestors of the Fáy family, the valiant Rugács and his two sons, Don and Barnabás in 1243 for their heroism in the battle of Muhi in 1241.
