In the 'Geographiai' Dictionary of Hungary published in 1851 the acknowledged Hungarian scientist, Fényes Elek, introduced the L'Huillier-Coburg Castle of Edelény. 'It is situated at a beautiful place, in a little slope next to the creek Boldva, on a peninsula with a beautiful view to the Boldva and the river Sajó, to the hills on the west and north-east. Its excellent architecture makes it the most beautiful castle of the region...' Besides its ornamentation and architecture, it is also a special castle due to its location: the Boldva, Sajó and the river Hernád, on the side of the hills of Cserehát, close to parks and reservoirs, surround it.

The drawing by Franz Anton Dvoizaczky from 1763-64 show the state of the castle in the 18th century. Franz Anton Dvoizaczky was commissioned by the count Esterházy István. After the survey was done, some of the rooms upstairs were ornamented by Rococo frescoes.

The original Baroque garden was rebuilt in the English garden style. Ray Rezső Vilmos built the gate and the outbuildings in the garden.
