Éber Memorial Hall - Baja - Szentistván

Address: 6500, Baja - Szentistván Jókai Mór utca 19.
Phone number: (79) 324-216
Opening hours: 16.03-18.12.: Wed-Sat 10-16
If we walk down the quiet and norrow Jókai street in Baja, the attractive court of the Éber Memorial House will soon invite us inside, where the visitor is welcomed by the inheritance of Sándor Éber and his two children, Sándor Éber and Anna Éber. Besides the paintings, drawings and statues, this house keeps the documents of local and literary history, and the ethnographic and falk items collected by the family through decades.

Walking through the Éber Memorial House, the visitor might ask: what is this place exactly? Is it a gallery? A museum? A folk art collection? It's neither, yet it is a little of each of them. It is a cross section of two hundred years. "As, walking along the eroding, clayey bank of the Danube, you see when the flood came and when the clay deposits formed, you can see in this house when during the last 150 to 200 years the oil lamp burned with high light, when it ran low... Now it has just been refilled..."

(Sándor Éber, Jr., 1981)
