The chemis Irinyi János discovered matches. He was part of the program to develop industry. He established a factoy in Pest in 1840 that was open until 1848. In 1848 Kossuth nominated him superintendent of national factories. In 1949 Kossuth employed him at the gunpower factory of Nagyvárad and at cannon casting.
