The Zsolnay Porcelain Manufacturer endeavoured to fulfil a cultural mission across Hungary with its exhibition series aiming to prove that the factory is able to produce artistic and innovative porcelain, just like the predecessors did. Products from the manufacturer have been marvelled for long.

Zsolnay Abroad and in Hungary

A number of cultural programs welcomed the visitors in the factory in the past few years. Zsolnay represented the town of Pécs several times abroad.

In 2009 the Forbes Gallery of New York opened its exhibition series with a Zsolnay exhibition. In 2009 Zsolnay products were invited to be shown at the Synagogue in Eger, and then the Palace of Arts in Budapest hosted the exhibition of Zsolnay products.

The Zsolnay factory’s intention is to continue with the exhibitions across the country. The first stage of the exhibition series this year was Pécs; it travelled on to Debrecen, Budapest and Kecskemét and is to travel to Szeged, Kaposvár and Nyíregyháza.

The Next Stage of the Exhibition Series is Balatonfüred.

The Zsolnay Exhibition is presented in the Széchenyi Room of the Vaszary Mansion from 24 July to 8 August 2010 with traditional and new forms, though also in the spirit of Vilmos Zsolnay.

However, the material focuses on the Volcano vases made in the Secessionist style that are the first items of the limited serial program. The original masterpieces were made after the designs of Tádé Sikorski with motifs designed by Henrik Darilek at the turn of the 20th century. The three vases with ornaments of erupting volcanoes and pinea trees around were made in three colours representing night, dawn and day. The three pieces were made with eosin technique by three master painters.

The newest result of the innovative activity of the Zsolnay factory is the Rippl-Rónai set with original József Rippl-Rónai motif designs he did for the dining room of the Andrássy Palace in 1898. The value of the Zsolnay-Andrássy service set is best told if we consider that the four plates were sold for 34 million forints at the turn of the century. The real 21st century set was made after original design but with modern needs.
