The poet Mária Hegedűs is a visual artist and also a pedagogist.
She was born in Hajdúnánás in 1951.
After graduating from secondary school in 1969, she worked as an unskilled labourer in Csepel. Then, from 1970 to 1974 she worked as the Municipal Cultural Centre in Hajdúnásás as an educator of people until she graduated from the Liszt Ferenc Teachers' Training Collage.
Int he period between 1974 and 1980, she worked for the Egressy Béni Cultural Centre in Kazincbarcika, from 1980 to 1984 at the Cultue Department of the Town's Hall. Sine 1984 she has worked as a librarian at the Irinyi János Secondary School.
However, she continued studying: she graduated from the Hungarian Language-People's Education faculties of ELTE. In 1988 she received the Eötvös scholarship. She began her PhD studies at the Modern Literature Faculty for ELTE in .
She joined the Association of Hungarian Writers.
She has exhibited and presented several performances, and published a number of books, too.
