Géza Szabó who became a goldsmith in 1930 (1895 - 1968) laid down the basis of the mint. He made cast, embossed coins, plaques and stamps.
In 1984, his son, Géza Szabó, restarted coin making on old machines and equipments. The coins he makes reached every part of the country. Besides the continuous developments, handmade sketching is still determinant. Thus, the coins made by him are unique products.
The coins are made following the designs of the best sculptors of the country. This workshop serves as basis for the new sculptor generation that reformed the Hungarian coin art utilizing new technology. The changes of form and picture helped the development of Hungarian coin art.
The work of Géza Szabó was honored by the profession with the title 'Master with Golden Wreath'. The town of Szeged gave him the Pro Urbe prize.
