The photographer, graphic artist, illustrator and publisher Étienne Sved was an outstanding explorer of pictures.
Étienne Sved was born in Hungary in 1914. He studied graphics from masters of Bauhaus who fled Nazi Germany. During German occupation he left Budapest due to his Jewish origins end immigrated to Egypt. He got involved in photography, travelled the country on donkey back, spent peaceful times at museums and graves and watched the Nile.
He photographed reality and piled up a historic collection of negatives. After WWII he moved to France where he continued his involvement in photography but he became interested in advertisements, too. In the seventies he established his own publisher company in Haute-Provence. His first publication, the "Provence des campaniles" demanded attention right away (Nadar Prize 1979).
The Nicéphore Niépce Museum acquired Étienne Sved's Near East treasures consisting of nearly 3000 negatives and vintages.
The objective of the present exhibition is to show Étienne Sved as a versatile artist involved in photo, advertisements, and graphic book publication...
