The artist himself selected material from over 50 performances of the Opera House from 1962 to 1989 for the exhibition organized in honour of the director Békés András on his 80th birthday.

Békés András graduated from the Theatre Academy in 1949. After working at the National Theatre, Honvéd Theatre, József Attila Theatre, in Kecskemét and Szeged he began working at the Opera House in 1960. He first directed the 'Begger Student' by Millöcker in 1962. Until his retirement in 1990, he directed over 50 plays. He also directed shows for the Radio and TV. He established the Szentendre Teatrum in 1969 which he managed for years afterwards. Békés László was awarded with the Kossuth Prize, a merited artist, life member of the Opera House, master artist, professor of the Theatre University and Music Academy.

The exhibition includes material from all eras of his life. We show objects from his early plays like 'Marta', 'The Golden Rooster', 'The Lover of Three Oranges', Dido and Aeneas etc.

The exhibition also tries to draw attention to the importance of the near past.
