János Tornyai was born in Hódmezővásárhely on 18, January, 1869 and died on 20, September, 1936. The painter is one of the significant personalities of the so called "realists of the great Hungarian plain", a creative, intellectual group. His consistency was unique in dealing with the same theme: the drama that surrounds heritage, which he called 'lot'. He did around 30 paintings and 100 drawings on this topic.
