Béla Czóbel (1883-1976) was a Hungarian artist, one of the decisive personalities of the 20th century, who had an international reputation in his life. The artist who was open to new trends soon became fascinated by Fauvism and Expressionism. To the effect, he created works of art with determined outlines, strong colours with a specific approach.

He lived in Paris during his hectic life for a long time, but was connected to Dutch and German art scene in several ways. Szentendre, where an independent museum was opened in his life, he considered the second home. His first collective exhibition was held in 1971 at the Hall of Art. Last year, on occasion of the 131st anniversary of his birth a summarizing large-scale exhibition was organized in the Szentendre Art Mill selecting from Czóbel's works. This year the renovation of the museum that accommodates his works has begun. However, Czóbel's works did not end up in a storehouse, as the Ferenczy Museum launched a travelling exhibition presenting an overall showing of his oeuvre.

This is the way how, after visiting Budapest and Szolnok a selection from Béla Czóbel's works is arriving in Szentes, then are travelling on to Szekszárd. The exhibition showcasing the artist's main works is open from 10 July 2015 until 8 August at the, Koszta József Museum's County Hall exhibition room in Szentes.

Among other things, 'Mr. Meyer in front of the bookcase' will be whose glowing striped jacket is visualized by colour patches. In addition, the vibrant female nude Venus Szentendre will be also featured in the exhibition. The value of the works of art arriving in Szentes is more than HUF 450 million.
