András Balla first wanted to be an engineer gardener. However, his interest only turned to photography after he graduated from school. Nevertheless, he is one of the most honourable still photographers in Hungary these days. He is mainly known of experimental photography and also of his special approach, the way he photographs frames with people, animals and objects in.

To sum it up: characteristic feature of Ballas art is his choice of subject, his choices and his sophisticated representation. He addresses visual art and painting related issues the way nobody else does, applying modern technology tools - said about him the art historian Imre Nagy.

András Balla has had a number of national and international exhibitions, won a number of significant awards. Now he summarises his past achievements in Hódmezővásárhely. People of Vásárhely may see some of his photos from time to time, while András Balla keeps returning to the banks of the backwater at Martély for decades now.

The material is on display in ten downstairs rooms of the Alföldi Art Gallery showing photos of mainly microscopic world, together with older but important photo series by the artist (e.g. Woman in Purple Dress, Gardens of Fragrant) even an etching by András Balla from 1968. The artist did a full series of the timelessness of the wood and its artistic details. He makes the visitors wee the tiny wonders of the landscape in the Mártély region, something we would never see otherwise.
