At the beginning of my career, when I moved to Lengyel in 1955, I began collecting relics by the original settler Germans and Bukovina Székely settled in Lengyel in 1945.

I noticed how interesting the past had been and I was keen on saving objective memories. I learned about the importance of preserving folk objects in the house of my birth so I began collecting objects first to save them, later with the idea of opening a museum. I kept all I had gathered on my attic for long. The Village Committee offered several locations to show my collection but these were not apt since they were located in the outskirts.

In 1988, we ceremoniously opened the Ethnography Collection on the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Kindergarten of Lengyel in the Tradition Hall of the Cultural Centre. Both Székely and German material were included in the showing. Those who donated to the collection helped the Lengyel community, Tolna County and Hungary enormously with their spiritual and objective donations.

We hope to open a museum with our collection left to us. We have shown the collection several times at temporary exhibitions. These exhibitions were visited by many which invigorated us to continue our work and open a museum open for all visitors of our village. Entries in the memorial book tell about the appreciation of the visitors which also gives us strength to continue our work.

The realisation of this valuable collection of German and Székely folk relics is due to those who donated to it and the opening of the museum would honour them, too.

Groups: Local history, spiritual material and objects, Székely and German material, spiritual material and objects related to traditional professions, folk furniture, homespun ad embroidery. The goodwill value of the collection is incalculable. We hope to commemorate all who gave something to the museum. Székely of Bukovina in their fleeing, the local Germans in resettlement left their valuables which was made public value. I feel that it is our duty to show the visitors how we evaluate the past, how we wish to add to European education and cultural life in the county. Please, pronounce the Bukovina Székely and local German Ethnography Collection museum. The collection also includes donations from people living in neighbouring villages.
