People always paid attention to their physical and psychological harmony and health throughout history. The problems of body functions were healed with medication and healing techniques while psychological health was treated with religion.
In Christian Hungary, doctors and pharmacists treated patients with modern technique while the patients themselves could help a lot with their prayers and other means of religion. The names of pharmacies and symbols of Kecskemét suggest the importance of the sacred.
With our exhibition, we remember the founders, Lóránd Nándor (1915-1995) and Dr. Réthy Aladár (1905-1985), on the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Katona József Museum and Doctor- and Pharmacy History Collection. We believe that our honor can be expressed best with their personal documents, photos along with the sacred symbols of the pharmacies of Kecskemét. We show a real specialty: the relief of Jesus Christ from the wall of the 'Redeemer' pharmacy that has not been shown for 30 years.
Lóránd Nándor, born 90 years ago, began to collect objects and documents of the pharmacies, at 7 Battyány Street. He even showed them at his exhibition in the rooms of the old Szentlélek Pharmacy. He also processed the material in his essays and lectures.
We celebrate the 100th birthday of Dr. Réthy Aladár. He began to collect the medical instruments, documents in 1970. He also presented the material in his writings and chamber exhibitions. The material was taken over by the Katona József Museum. The museum organized the exhibition titled 'Memoirs of Medical and Pharmacy History of Two Centuries' selected of the two above mentioned collections.
We wish to salute the memoirs of Lóránd Nándor and Dr. Réthy Aladár with our jubilee exhibition.
