The group of artists called ‘Sezession Graz’ was formed by the painter Wilhelm Thöny, Fritz Silberbauer and Alfred Wickenburg in 1923.
This was the last groups founded in relation to the movement that is called Secession in Central- Europe. Compared with former secession trends formed in Munich, Berlin and Vienna, it was not style that was in centre in Graz but contemporary art. It suited the needs of the generation.
Ever since the beginnings, the membership was international. 1938, the Sezession group was banned for their being "scene of degenerated art".
After the war, they began work again with enthusiasm. They increasingly focused on activity, which is still true for these days. Sezession is on its way to fulfil its purpose by finding new forms and solutions.
Exhibiting artists: Walli Feller, Sigi Hrad-Rynda, Helga Hudin, Linda Leeb, Helmut Lichtenegger, Raymonde Marcher-Greinix, Renate Polzer, Ingrid Pototschnik, Marion Rauter-Wieser, Barbara Rittler, Monika Schönbacher-Frischenschlager, Renate Sterlika, Heinz Tagger, Ingrid Wieser, Mil Vega
