The Municpial Museum of Art presents the architecture history exhibition, selecting of the world-famous etchings by Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1778). Taking Rome as an example, we show the infinite artistic opportunity in antique art and baroque townscape. The exhibition, exemplifying practice based on theory, by way of the structure classical pole systems and division, provides an insight into old architectural sample drawings. In addition to the most widely known, the most often used illustrated geometric and architectural technical textbooks, we also show the first publication of Albrecht Dürer's (1471-1528) writing on measurement (Unterweisung der Messung, 1525), Joachim von Sandrart’s (1606-1688) Church Guide from the 17th century or Andrea Pozzo’s GBU from 1709.
Antique traditions of geometry studies and architecture were in the centre of interest of those interested in the history of architecture ever since the Renaissance. Professionals who did fieldwork in several parts of Europe often did quality etchings or line engraving to illustrate their topography works. In this respect, of intentions of the 17th century, the engraving series commissioned by Pál Esterházy from Matthias Greischer is of a special interest.
Spectacular drawings of buildings, Birkenstein popular geometry books ornamented by Justus van Nypoort’s (1625-1692) castle images are also on display. Preparation for war was an everyday part of life and it was helped by the various architectural books, of which we show one by Daniel Speckle entitled Architectura von Vestungen from 1599, and one by Bernard Forest de Belidor (1698-1761).
Geometry, the study of strongholds, ornamented poles: unforgettable reminders of the history of Rome are on display in thematic units. We invite our visitors to a very unusual walk through wonderful drawings. The material of the exhibition presented on occasion of the 20. Baroue Wedding was borrowed from the Hungarian Academy of Arts Library, Sopron Museum and the Eisenstadt Collection.
