The History Institute for the University of Debrecen and the Faculties of History and Philosophy for the Babeş-Bolyai University of Cluj launched a travelling exhibition showing photo replicas of original coat of arms on letters confirming nobility.
The selection is unique in several ways: six collections in Hungary and Romania (Hungarian National Archives, Budapest; Hajdú-Bihar County Archives, Debrecen; Debrecen Calvinist Collage Library, Debrecen; Cluj County National Archives, Cluj; Calvinist Diocese Archives, Cluj; Lucian Blaga University Library, Cluj) selected from fifity coat of arms. The volume that includes illustrations that are probably in publication for the first time was the result of three-years of scientific work, though now it is for the audience in large.
The greatest outcome, however, seems to be the professional cooperation reaching across the border, during which the above mentioned institutes' several employees did wonderful and selfless job.
The objective behind the picture series was to show values of the past, setting up cultural-scientific relations and also involving the public. The coat of arms to be shown have characteristic features, still, they perfectly fit the system of European heraldry. They express the European roots in Hungarian history. The coats of arms reflect the clothing, ideas of the nobles, as well as the artistic values of the time period in which it was created. The various ways in which they can be studied makes these coats of arms suitable for learning about Hungarian culture.
