Antal Gebhardt was born in Pécs in 1887. He went to the Cistercian Order Grammar School in Pécs. He graduated from the Kolozsvár University as a lawyer in 1910. Five years he received his diploma s a judge and lawyer from the Budapest Univeersity, too. Dr. Antal Gebhardt began to work at the Regional Court in Dombóvár in 1919, of which he became head of in 1920. Despite the fact that Antal Gebhardt spent 30 years in Dombóvár as a judge, citizens of the town know little about him.

The Dombóvár Town Embellishing and Protecting Society, the Dombóvár Local History Museum and the Dombóvár Civilian Society for Nature Protection co-organized the exhibition, honouring the hiker, researcher and the judge Antal Gebhardt. The exhibition opened on 18 September 2010.

Local historians contacted descendants of Gebhardt who were happy to visit Dombóvár. Relatives, e.g. Dr. Tamás (Szigetvár, physician) and Dr. Tibor Benda (Kaposvár, vet) and their wives arriving in town first visited the president of court in Vác, Dr. Géza Riba.

Then, they continued their visit to the Nature Protection Base in Konda Valley. 'It is a small exhibition for a great man' - said Ádám Müller, employee of the Local History Exhibition. And really, they had only a few square meters available to commemorate a grand man, the judge, the scientist and the researcher who was in search of challenges as he always wanted to learn.

The family learned about the exhibition with joy. ‘If I were a young man of 14-15, I would probably sleep here as what I found here I really catchy. When I think about what I was like at that age, I remember that I loved insects, exhibition item or even wood cuts, so what I see here are really attractive for me. And this is what I said to the organizers: when young people see this exhibition, their hearts will be open, this is for sure - said the grandson of Antal Gebhardt. We asked him about the first memory of his grandfather. 'The first story about him is very interesting. I used to go out with my grandfather on his collecting trips to Somogy and the Zselic area. At night he spread a large white sheet, and when the insects flew on it, we just put them into jars. It was the first image that came to mind, but of course I could say a lot more. When he came to Kaposvár, I was his guide since I was born there and knew the town really well.'

The relatives of the researchers left Dombóvár, but promised to return to see the exhibition then with items included that they sent in.

The material was organized by Kata Horváth, Tibor Kisbenedek and Ádám Müller.
Idea: Dr. József Kriston Vízi.
