Globes illustrate Earth and the universe. Geography, astronomy related discoveries can be traced on globes and celestial spheres, but also applied art trends of a given era or monarch.

Permeation of globes and celestial spheres in Hungarian was closely related to the wide spreading of public education. The quality of geography teaching required mass production of cartography documents.

The exhibition presents nearly one-hundred globes and celestial spheres, including the first Hungarian printed globe and celestial sphere, the Elekes Globe from the 19th century and several modern pieces.

We also show coins and medals ornamented with the image of the earth and the skies, stamps and various ornamental objects.

We hope to direct the attention on the importance of preserving these cartography rarities.
